Woodstock raised, Nashville honed, and Laurel Canyon inspired, 22-year-old Stella Prince creates soul-baring indie folk pop representing the next generation of artists.
Stella Prince doesn't remember life before music. In fact, she's known for as long as she can remember that it was what she wanted to do.
Raised in Woodstock, New York, Stella attended her first concert at three years old, watching folk icon Levon Helm perform. By four, she was asking her parents for voice lessons, a manager, and a career in music. "For my entire life, I've known what I wanted," she says.
Homeschooled from a young age, Stella spent much of her childhood immersed in music. At seven, she joined Bard College's conservatory-style music program, studying music theory, history, piano, guitar, voice, and performance alongside students often decades older than herself. The experience shaped both her musicianship and her understanding of what a life in music could look like.
Over the years, Stella has independently booked and performed more than 1,000 shows throughout the United States and Europe. Her songs draw from a wide range of influences, from Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez to Karen Carpenter, Judy Garland, and Patsy Cline, combining traditional folk storytelling with observations about growing up, relationships, identity, and finding one's place in the world.
Her recent work has been featured by Forbes, No Depression, and the Nashville Scene, and she has performed at events including Folk Alliance International, AmericanaFest, SXSW, and Tin Pan South. In 2024, she founded an all-female folk showcase in partnership with Change the Conversation, creating performance opportunities for women in a genre where they are often underrepresented.
Now based in Los Angeles, Stella continues to write, record, and tour while preparing for the release of her debut album in Fall 2026.
